Musician and writer David Jordan Harris is a well-known figure in the national Jewish arts community. He is Artistic Director and co-founder of the acclaimed performance ensemble Voices of Sepharad and has been Executive Director of Rimon: The Minnesota Jewish Arts Council since 2004. Under his leadership, Rimon was named one of the most innovative Jewish non-profits in North America for five years by Slingshot, a resource guide for Jewish innovation.

David’s performance and study of Judeo-Spanish music has taken him to every region of the United States and to Canada, France, Spain, Poland, Bosnia, Morocco, Israel, Greece, and Turkey. Recent productions he has created or co-created for Voices of Sepharad include Peace in the House, Tales of Djoha: Trickster in Two Worlds, A Night in Persia, Embracing the Beloved, and Song of Wonder.

A graduate of the University of Chicago, David is the interfaith arts special consultant at the Jay Phillips Center for Interfaith Learning. He is the recipient of numerous grants and fellowships supporting his work in cross-cultural and interfaith dialogue through the arts in which he draws together cultural communities through theater, music, and dance, workshops for students and adults, innovative artistic collaborations, public forums, and artist salons. Funders have included the Luce, Rockefeller, Jay and Rose Phillips Family Foundations, the Minnesota State Arts Board, Metropolitan Regional Arts Council, United Arts, and the St. Paul Companies, among others.

Integrating his skills a singer, actor, and dancer, David has appeared as guest artist with Zorongo Flamenco, Katha Dance Theatre, Corning Dances and Company, Walker Art Center, Illusion Theater, North Star Opera, Rose Ensemble, Liz Lerman Dance Exchange, Minnesota Opera, Lyra Baroque Orchestra, Ensemble Espaῆol, and In the Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theatre. Harris served as cantorial soloist, music director, and ritual director at Shir Tikvah Congregation in Minneapolis for 21 years. He has co-authored four plays and composed music for the film Romania 1941/Rwanda 1994.
