Artist Statement

I have composed several pieces on Jewish themes, liturgical music, and have completed a major work, a one-hour long Suite of Sephardic FolkSong Settings for harp alone. I recently completed a piece, Lake Superior Suite as a solo work. Minnesota is deeply embedded in my creative conscience, and I maintain close family ties there, if not a resident at present. I seek to bring forward classical values in my music, whether with folk music elements or purely classical. I also do some songwriting, serious cabaret or light classical music, depending how you present it.

Born in St. Paul, raised in Minneapolis, a product of public schools and Urban Arts programs, I went on to major in music at Macalester College. After that, I was principal harpist in the Minneapolis Civic Orchestra. I went on to get my master's degree at Manhattan School of Music, and stayed in New York City as a freelance musician and solo artist. I presented solo recitals on a regular basis in the Twin Cities, including performances at Mt. Zion and Temple of Aaron synagogues. I later moved to Philadelphia, where I produced HarpMusicFest: the International Harp Festival of Philadelphia, and concentrated on composing music featuring the harp. I teach harp. I can create educational programs.
