Peter Truran is a recent (2019) convert to Judaism with an involvement with the Jewish community that goes back to his days in high school. He is a figurative painter whose work reflects his personal concerns and obsessions. A visit to Israel in 2017 was a pivotal experience that galvanized his commitment to a Jewish life and resulted in a series of paintings that expressed his astonishment at the harshness of the Negev. A recent return to England provided material for a contrasting series on the lushness of a land blessed with abundant water.
