Artist Statement

At age 80, I have written my first book, From Generation to Generation: From Lithuanian Shtetl to Freedom, Family and Future in the City of Lakes. The book is a memoir, a snapshot of my family – from my immigrant grandparents and their children through three subsequent generations. It is a story of values and traditions. And it is a story of movement from homogeneity to diversity. And it demonstrates the impact those earliest generations of Bolnicks in America had on my life (a life dedicated to political action, government service and feminism) and provides insight into the kind of people they were – and subsequent generations are. It concludes with a glimpse into what life might have been, had my ancestors not come to America when they did. The book is available at Amazon.com.

I have enjoyed the arts in various forms throughout my life, largely as a consumer and lover of all manner of artistic expression. In retirement, I first created pieces of glass art, enjoying that for a number of years. I’ve always been a writer, using that skill in both professional and volunteer roles in politics and feminism over a span of many years.. Now, I’ve written my first book, a memoir – and a joy in the creation.
