Artist Statement

I intend to make my works visually engaging, but most of my works are also conceptual and often contain an ironic undercurrent. My murals-sized photographs depend on scale to create a unique experience, and that quality doesn't come across well on a computer screen. I ask a lot of my viewers.

Jonathan Gross has exhibited both 2D, 3D and 4D works in a number of group exhibitions at the Tychman Shapiro Gallery from 2013 through the present, two group shows at Minneapolis College of Art and Design, and in the 2017 Minnesota Fair Fine Arts Exhibition. His first solo show, Adaptive Ratios, took place at Traffic Zone Gallery in Minneapolis in 2019. The exhibit featured large-scale prints using the digital imaging process with which Jonathan has been working since 2010. His work can be found in the permanent collection of the Weisman Art Museum. Jonathan also designs theater projections and was a tour guide at the Walker Art Center for five years.
