Julie Marie Muskat has moved 16 times, but is originally from San Antonio, TX. She is a summa cum laude graduate of the inaugural class of Alonzo King's LINES Ballet BFA Program in San Francisco, CA, and of Interlochen Arts Academy in MI. She has taught dance across the US, Israel, and Italy, and her choreography has been set and performed nationally and internationally. She is currently based in Minnesota as a freelance choreographer and performer, having danced with Threads Dance Project (2013-2020), Vox Medusa, Dance and Other Behaviors, faux pas (a collaborative duo with Betsy Schaefer Roob), and as a guest artist for several companies. Beyond MN, she has danced with Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company (Israel), Compagnia AiEP (Italy), Revolution Dance Theatre (OH), and Central California Ballet. She has performed her work and been on faculty many times at the Cathedral Dance Festival (MN) and the Southern Vermont Dance Festival. She is the founder of Deeper Water Arts & Mind/Body Center, which provides dance, cross training, and health and wellness opportunities for young people and adults.
In her choreography, Julie Marie focuses on collaboration, exploration, and care. Known for her eclectic style and use of a wide range of modern and ballet technical vocabularies, she enjoys exploring a new creative world with each piece she constructs. Because of the collaborative nature of her work, each iteration of a piece is unique to the dancers she collaborates with and a direct result of their artistic voices and contributions.
